| SECOND GRADE FIELD TRIP TO THE ARKANSAS STATE CAPITOL |
![]() The second graders in Mrs. Crace's class visited the Arkansas State Capitol on Monday, Oct. 27, 2008. Before going to the capitol, the class spent time studying a Social Studies unit on community helpers, elected officials, judges, court, presidential election and much more. While at the capitol our class attended an hour-long tour of the Governor’s Reception Room, Old Supreme Court Chamber, Senate Chamber, House Chamber, Rotunda and the Treasury Department. The children learned even more, and they were able to see and learn about history of the capitol. Many parents attended with us, and a great, educational time was had by all. They really enjoyed the Treasury Department and getting to hold $200,000 in their very own hands! We all ate our sack lunches in Burns Park and collected leaves for a line of symmetry lesson that we started this week. Finally, we returned to our great school. The following day we wrote about our experiences and talked about the new, wonderful things that we saw and learned. It was a fun and extremely educational day for ALL involved. |

| SECOND MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY FIELD TRIP |
![]() The second graders in Mrs. Crace's class visited the Little Rock, Museum
of Discovery on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. Before going to the museum, the class
spent a couple of weeks studying a Science unit on Mammals, Amphibians,
Reptiles and Birds. While at the museum our class attended an hour long
presentation on the very same subjects. The children learned even more, and
they were able to see and touch some of the animals that they had just
learned about. Many parents attended with us, and a great, educational time
was had by all. After the presentation the children explored all that the
museum had to offer. They really enjoyed the wonderful exhibits and liked
writing down and noticing things that they had never seen before. We all ate
our sack lunches in the museum snack bar and explored even more exhibits
after lunch, until their papers were filled with information to write about.
Finally, we returned back to our great school. The following day we wrote
about our experiences and talked about the new things that we saw and the
wonderful things that we all learned. It was a fun and extremely educational
day for ALL involved. |

FIRST GRADE PUMPKIN HILL HAYRIDE FIELD TRIP |
|
The first graders in Mrs. Meek's class visited Wildwood
Park's Pumpkin Hill. Before going to the park, the class spent a couple of
weeks studying plants and how living things change The children enjoyed the
hayride behind a tractor, looking at the changing leaves (and collecting a
few!), eating lunch at the pavilion, and choosing a pumpkin at the
hay-covered hill before hiking back to the vehicles along a nature trail.
Many parents, grandparents, and siblings attended with us. Each student
chose a pumpkin to take home. Back at the school, the class measured and
compared the pumpkins before cutting open the one Mrs. Meek chose. We found
352 seeds inside that small pumpkin! We plan to toast and taste the seeds to
complete our adventure! We enjoyed our day out in the autumn of Arkansas. |
